What you need
Section titled “What you need”- Linux: x86_64 with glibc 2.35 or newer — Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 40 or anything newer — on Wayland or X11, and a GPU with Vulkan 1.2.
- Windows: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit (x64).
- macOS is not supported.
Download the .deb file and open it with your software installer, or install it from a terminal in the folder you saved it to:
sudo apt install ./kaveo_*.debFor Ubuntu 22.04 or newer, Debian 12 or newer, and the distributions built on them, such as Linux Mint and Pop!_OS.
Download the .rpm file and install it:
sudo dnf install ./kaveo-*.rpm # Fedorasudo zypper install ./kaveo-*.rpm # openSUSEFor Fedora 40 or newer, and openSUSE.
Install kaveo-bin from the AUR with your AUR helper:
yay -S kaveo-binOr download the .pkg.tar.zst file from the release page and install it with
sudo pacman -U ./kaveo-bin-*.pkg.tar.zst. Both are the same package under the same name.
Tarball — download the .tar.xz file, unpack it, and run the installer inside it. It
asks which components to use, whether to add Kaveo to your file manager’s right-click menu and
whether to put the kaveo command on your PATH, then installs for your user alone — or, with
--system, for every user of the computer.
tar xf kaveo-*-linux-x86_64.tar.xz./kaveo-*-linux-x86_64/install.shinstall.sh --uninstall removes exactly what it installed; your library and settings stay.
AppImage — download the .AppImage file, make it executable, and run it. Nothing is installed.
chmod +x Kaveo-*.AppImage./Kaveo-*.AppImageWindows
Section titled “Windows”The usual choice. Installs Kaveo for your user, with no administrator prompt.
Installs Kaveo for every user of the computer; it asks for administrator rights. Meant for managed computers, where it can be deployed and its updates controlled by policy.
Unzip it anywhere — a folder or a USB drive — and run Kaveo from there. Nothing is installed, and everything Kaveo keeps stays in that folder.
Updates
Section titled “Updates”Kaveo checks for new versions by itself. When one is out it offers it, and once you accept it downloads, verifies and installs the update itself — whichever format you installed. The automatic check can be turned off; see Privacy.
Older versions
Section titled “Older versions”Every earlier release stays available on the releases list.
